Daniel, Norway

July 20, 2011

Hi Josh!

My name is Daniel, I am 26 years old and I am from Norway. I am a student of economy at the “University of *****”. I have interest/hobbies like hunting, fishing and freediving(could perhaps interest you). I have for a long time been a strong supporter of the Israeli cause. I also enjoy of having several Jewish friends both in Norway and in Israel. I don’t like the current situation of my own country towards Israel at all. Whenever I there is a opportunity for me to oppose and speak against the anti-semitic/anti-Israeli attitudes, I do it.

I could probably list up a whole lot of questions, but there is one that is one that I am most interested in. Please bare with me here. I have for long time wanted to join your fight and enlist into The IDF.

So my question is; Is there ANY possibility for me as a non-Jewish, Christian to join the IDF? If it is possible, I will join as soon as possible. Thank you in advance.

Hi Daniel,

I’m sorry for taking so long to get back to you, I’ve had my university exams recently and it’s been very busy for me.

That’s cool that you like freediving, I love it as well! I love pretty much all water sports, and one of the best experiences of my life was freediving with a school of reef sharks in Egypt.

As for joining the IDF, it’s just like joining any other regular army. Any Israeli resident or citizen (that’s young and healthy enough) can join, regardless of their religion or race. The IDF has many Christians, Muslims and others serving in it, it is far from being for Jews only! So, if you can get residency or citizenship, then you’d be good to go.

All the best,
