I am 33 year old single male, chiropractor, raised and living in Houston, TX. I have been to Israel twice. I always dreamed of being in the Israeli special forces as a tennager but my parents would not let me go. I suport Israel and especially the commandos.
Is there any big BJJ tournaments in Israel? I have been competing for over a year, and love it. I just went to Rio for the Rio Open, where my team (Bra-021) won 4 medals, including gold.
Is there any way for somebody too old to serve in the army to still somehow volunteer in the IDF?
Thank you for taking the time to visit our site and getting in touch with me.
First and foremost I’d like to say I have a huge amount of respect for anyone willing to compete on any level and in any sport, so mad props. It is pretty cool that your team won a gold in Rio, that is really impressive.
There are no big BJJ tournaments in Israel. I’m sure there are some tournaments but I do not compete, I train more the love the sport than for the love of the competition. You may want to ask Josh about the competitions, I know that he doesn’t compete in Israel but he has a better ear in that world than I do.
As far as volunteering in the IDF in some way shape or form at your age there are multiple organizations that you can look into. One of them is Sar-El http://www.sar-el.org/, don’t get turned off by there website even though it looks like it was designed by a fifth grader, they are a great organization and I know that they have volunteer groups all the time. There is another group that unfortunately I do not know the name of it, but I remember after the Second Lebanon War they came and visited my Battalion. They were a group of people with different types of alternative medicine training such as massage, chiropractic, and multiple Eastern medical treatments, which may be of interest to you.
I hope you have found my answers helpful and informative. Please feel free to come back to the sight with any further questions you may have.
