Melisa, Turkey

September 17, 2011

I’m a Christian living in Turkey. My interest in islam started when I read the Bible, though I live in a Muslim country. It just didn’t make me feel like it’s the word of God, it has so many conflicts.. I’ve been reading Quran, still I’m not sure what the original language of Bible says, and because your native language is Hebrew, I want to ask. I’m happy that I found this site.

Hi Liran how are you? Psalms 37:28 Around the ninth hour, Jesus shouted in a loud voice, saying “Eli Eli lama sabachthani?” which is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Matthew 27:46 אלהי אלהי למא שבקתני [ēlâhî ēlâhî lamâ šabaqtanî] Can you write me the Psalms verse with English letters? I know what it means actually: ”For the Lord loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.” Does this verse from Psalms include roots of this word ‘sabaqtani’ (forsake i think) or it says something else? I think you can see the conflict with English translation.
How is Israel doing? What do you think of Palestine-Israel conflict? Do you think peace will come in September if Palestine gets recognized? I heard Israeli government says it will be even worse, still I don’t know what they think for peace as other solution is one state solution but in my opinion this solution is not possible. What do you think will happen in future(maybe in 10 years) both in Israel and in Palestine?
Could Israeli people get what they want? There were protests going on but I don’t know much about this issue. Thank you for your answers, Shalom(I think it means peace right?)
Hi Melisa
I am very honored to meet a Christian from Turkey, I know there is a small community of Jews there but I never had met a christian before. The verse from the bible you have given me is one that I had never read before, but I think the translation is “why did you abandon me?” or something like this.
Secondly, Israel is in a very tough situation in the region, our usual allies such as Turkey are now turning against us because we did not apologize from the flotilla incident, which Israel claims they did nothing wrong. I think that although my government along with the Palestinians could do more for peace, I think now we have the best chance we have ever had to achieve it. We just need to get past this drama of the United Nations Statehood bid. Although I don’t think after the vote there will be violence- the Palestinians are tired of fighting as are the Israelis. THe Palestinians also understand that they wont get a real state through a UN vote, but through negotiations with Israel.
Lastly, unfortunately I dont think the social justice protest movement will succeed. Even though they are very popular, the government believes that their demands will destroy our economy in a time when the global economy is not permitting for these kinds of social policies. It is a very bad situation though, where you have the average Israeli who serves in the military and can barely get by on a normal salary to support his family.
Do you think Turkey-Israel relations will improve???
Liran

Thank you!
