Michaela, USA

I’m a 20 year old college graduate for Photographic Imaging Technology (which is fancy for photography) I currently live in the US – would LOVE to live in Israel, one of my brothers is there now gaining his citizenship so that he can join the IDF – so I definitely have a have a heart for Israel!

What’s up? haha we should definitely be friends.

On a serious note – what’s it like in the IDF?

Hi Michaela,

I’m sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I’ve been a little out of action over the holiday season.

It’s very cool that you studied photography, I’d love to take some real formal training sometime, the couple of short courses that I’ve done were great.

To answer you, the IDF was an amazing experience, and an integral part of being Israeli. I can only talk about infantry, as that’s what I know, and it was certainly tough. The food was terrible, the pay is a joke, and the living conditions are far from luxurious.

However, the friends that I made, and the knowledge that I’ve put in the kind of day’s work that most people can only dream about goes a long way toward making me feel like it was worth it.

All in all, it was a very strange experience; varying from the boring, to the terrifying, to the hilarious.

Anyway, wish your brother luck from me and take care,
