I’m a Hungarian student in Romania(studying mechatronics), I’m 22, and love creating and repairing electronic stuffs… Oh and I just found this site, and I’m not sure what to say…

I saw your videos, and I think I have a question… What are those “illegal settlements”? I mean where are ware they built, for what purpose and why are they illegal

Hi Tibor,

I’m sorry that it’s taken me so long to get back to you, I was away for work for a little while.

Settlements are towns, villages and communities of Israelis that live outside of Israel’s 1967 borders, in the West Bank and the Golan Heights.

The illegal bit is a little more complicated, as there are two meanings to the words ‘illegal settlements’.

First, the international world (the UN) considers all of the Israeli communities outside of the 1967 borders to be illegal, so they mean all of the settlements.

However, Israel does not agree with that legal definition and when Israel talks about ‘illegal settlements’, it means ones that were built without the permission of the Israeli government and lack planning consent like you would need to build anything.

I hope that helps,

All the best,

Thank you!
